Negative Tides - Like Fishing in a Barrel

Updated: Jan 26, 2019

Gene Williams and an 18" Honeymoon Island Trout

Hit the inside of Honeymoon Island yesterday morning to duck the 15 mph SE winds and take advantage of the negative low tide. Found a couple of big Trout schools holding in the remaining pools left on the mud flat at low tide. The hot lure proved to be a 1/4 oz jig head rigged with a MirrOlure Lil' John in this winter's hot color - Electric Chicken. My Partner for the day, Gene Williams, also picked up a nice Snook and surpisingly, a couple of Sheepshead. This was not a trip for the meek as we had to walk half a mile to get to our entry point, waded a mile through mud and had a mile and a half back through a wooded trail to my truck. Gene and I agreed that the results made it all worthwhile.
